OUTLAND JOURNAL

An Unflattering Reality

James and Montana, on their last trip to Cambodia, visited the abandoned garment factory pictured.

"This abandoned garment factory would have been buzzing with activity not so long ago. The floor is covered with the remnants of some of our favourite brands. If our bottom line is always the $$, and there is no common agreement globally as to what constitutes fair practise in the fashion industry, then this image will continue to be a familiar sight every time a country moves closer to realising better wages and conditions for its people." James Bartle, Outland Denim Founder and CEO

“I will never forget walking into this abandoned garment factory… It was over an acre and littered with remnants of clothing from labels I knew and many I didn’t. It was the first time I had felt the magnitude of what I was dealing with here. All I could think of was “if this is what was left behind, what must have been here before?”. Montana Lower, Outland Denim Environmental Systems Engineer.
